Early Life

Carmelo Anthony was born on May 29, 1984, in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York. His father died of cancer when Anthony was just two years old. When he was eight, his family moved to Baltimore, where they lived in a rough neighborhood surrounded by crime and poverty. Sports became a crucial outlet and safe haven. Anthony attended Towson Catholic High School, where he quickly developed into a standout basketball player. In the summer of 1999, he experienced a five-inch growth spurt, reaching 6'5″. He became one of the top high school players in the country and was named The Baltimore Sun's metro player of the year. Anthony went on to play one season at Syracuse University, where he led the team to its first-ever national championship in 2003 and was named the NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Pro Basketball Career

Carmelo was chosen as the third pick in the first round of the 2003 NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets. He was chosen after LeBron James (#1) and Darko Miličić (#2). During his first nine years in the NBA, Carmelo Anthony earned just over $94 million in salary alone. Anthony spent his first seven seasons with the Denver Nuggets, who drafted him after he spent one season playing for Syracuse. During this time of an "on-again, off-again" relationship with La La, Anthony fathered a child (Genesis Harlo) with Mia Burks. In April 2008, Anthony was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was ticketed and released, but the Nuggets suspended him for two games.

Anthony reportedly owns another property in Colorado, a 12,700-square-foot home with an indoor basketball court and batting cage.
